Today's Choices Shape My Future by Sattrick Rudolph, Senior
Today's choices shape not only my future, but also the future of those around me. Life is full of choices and decisions, but it is up to us to make the correct choice. Making the right choices today will lead to success tomorrow. Each day you will face many challenges and it will be up to you to make the right decision to positively shape your future. I am making the choice to write this essay because I could use this scholarship to help me go to college, so that I can better myself. I think going to college is an experience that shouldn't be missed. College is another way to help me be successful in life. Being a senior in high school and going to school everyday is a choice that I have made and in a few months it will be over. High school has taught me the biggest thing in life: responsibility. I have learned responsibility through keeping up with assignments, turning them in on time, and learning how to be organized. These skills will translate into good habits for the future. After high school, I will have to make another choice: stay home and work just like many others from my area or go to college, earn my degree and become less dependent on my parents. Growing up I didn't always make the right choices and often found myself in trouble. As I got older and more mature, making the right choice became less of a problem for me. When I got to high school I made the choice to join in after school activities. Being the quarterback of the high school football team has helped me become a leader in the classroom and on the field. I also joined the basketball and baseball teams, FBLA and I am the president of the Science Club. Taking these roles taught me time management and other leadership skills. Getting into college is an important part of shaping my future to reach my goals. Once I am accepted and on my way to fulfilling my dreams, one hurdle will have been crossed but there will be many more to overcome. Money for books, tuition, and room and board -- are all important and necessary parts of the college experience. I know my parents are not able to pay my way through college, so I am trying to help with this by applying for grants and scholarships. All of the experiences I have had in my life up to this point have helped to shape my values, ethics, and self discipline and to know the value of higher education. I believe my generation has a great deal of responsibility for the future of our nation and we should all do our part to make the right choices to shape our future and that of those around us. |
